Happy Earth Day!
We’re always trying our very best to make conscious choices in hopes our small business can help in the collective effort of keeping this precious planet of ours alive and well.
A good way to think of Earth is like a giant spaceship with only so many resources. If we use up all of our resources then, well…you can let your imagination answer that one!
As a society, we tend to overindulge — whether that’s binging Netflix or falling victim to consumerism. We’ve all been there! In a society built on capitalism, it’s pretty hard not to. The problem is, our planet can’t keep up with the demand.
It’s easy to think that our daily choices have a little to no impact, but by leading the way and making choices that support our planet rather than deplete it, others will follow and collectively, we can make a BIG difference.
A choice that our small business has made is to devote our business practices to a circular economy. It hasn’t been an easy road, to say the least, but by carving our own path we have freed ourselves from the never-ending cycle of single-use plastic packaging and shown that plastic-free is possible.
Most of us care about our planet, but to change these feelings into action is not an easy thing. We’ve learned that easy does not always mean better.
And what better time to choose the path less taken, in a time that all of us have grown somewhat accustomed to our ‘normal’ being disrupted. Change is not so fun when it’s out of our control, but when we choose to create change for the better – it’s thrilling!
The choice to reduce, reuse, and recycle is a great place to start. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of possible ways you can get creative in using your Justo’s jars:Â
1. Return Your Jars
When you return your clean, empty jars back to us, we can reuse them! This way we don’t have to order more and minimize our waste 🙂 For every jar returned, we donate one serving of hummus to the local shelters. You can return them directly to us on market days or at any of our vendor locations.
2. Homemade Candles
Use it as a tea light candle holder, make your own candle, or you can even reuse the leftover wax at the bottom of your old candles and layer them into your jar to make a new one.
3. A Home For Your Plants
Our jars are the perfect size for an upcycled planter! Great for small, easy to care for plants like succulents or little cactus – Â maybe even a little terrarium!Â
4. A Flower Vase
Cut a few flowers from the garden and use your jar as a vase!
5. For Lunch and/or Snacks
One jar to store the crackers or veggies and another with hummus.
6. Declutter Your House
Organize your toiletries, desk supplies, spare change… the options are endless!
7. Paint a Pretty Picture
Use it as your water jar for painting!
